Ok, so I said yesterday we would talk about Heroes today…so let’s do that.

This is one of my favorite shows on TV right now. I’ll concede that last season didn’t live up to how excellent the first season was, BUT it was cut short due to the writers strike, so we only got about half of it.

I think this season started off great, and last night’s episode was better than the first one…I don’t want to do too much of a recap to avoid spoilers…but the first thing that stood out to me was that Tracy Strauss is way less annoying than Nikki Sanders, although I feel bad for Mikah…hardcore Peter Petrelli is awesome (regular Peter is good too, but it’s so much better when he’s actually using his powers to their potential)…Parkman is stuck somewhere with African Isaac Mendez and Claire wants to hunt down Sylar who is now teamed with her father trying to hunt down the villains that escaped level five.

We didn’t see any of The Fly, I mean Mohinder. I’m interested to see what’s going on with him…but not so interested to see what’s going on with Maya.

I loved it. I think they’re back at season one level. What did you think? Let me know in the comments?(<—Update: I’m Ron Burgundy? What’s with the question mark, dude?)

Also, I don’t know if anyone but the fiancee and I watch Chuck, but together with Heroes, it makes for one good Monday night of TV.

I’ll be back later with another progress report.

When things aren’t going right, changes have to be made.

It was a big sports news day in St. Louis as embattled St. Louis Rams head coach Scott Linehan was let go after losing his first four games this year. As most of you know, until recently I was a website writer for the St. Louis Rams. I want to express my condolences to coach Linehan, because, and I can tell you first hand after working with him for two and a half years, he’s a really good man. That being said, I think it was the right move and the right time for a team that needs a boost. Let’s hope my guys, and interim head coach Jim Haslett, will be able to turn this ship around. Linehan is only change No. 1. More changes are coming after the season, I’m sure.

Linehan’s release wasn’t the only change taking place in St. Louis Monday morning. As my weight and I had been at a stalemate, I decided to switch up my workout routine. My routine has just consisted of cardio, mainly running. I get up early each morning and go for a run, and sometimes on the weekend I’ll ride my bike. I live in an apartment, so my route usually takes me around the adjoining complex and my complex a couple times, which equals about 30 minutes.

This morning, I decided to go Rocky-style and run the stairs. I’m still trying to work out exactly how many times to do it and all that, but I’ll call it a success for the first run…which brings us to the Song of the Day.

One feature I wanted to add to this blog was a Song of the Day, which is a song that catches my ear as I’m running each morning, so…

Song of the Day: Eye of the Tiger, Survivor. It was as if my iPod knew I was going to run the stairs, and instinctively threw on Eye of the Tiger from Rocky III. That song always gets you pumped to work out, I don’t care who you are.

Unfortunately, when I arrived at work, I realized I forgot my lunch, which means I had to buy something…usually not a good deal for weight loss. Luckily, my friend Jeff and I hit up a St. Louis Bread Company (or Panera for all you out-of-staters), so I just had a sandwich and salad…not great, not terrible.

The fiancee and I knocked out some low-cal, low-fat chicken salad and some baked Ruffles for dinner and we’re getting ready for tonight’s episode of Heroes and season premiere of Chuck. We can discuss that tomorrow.

If anyone has any recommendations for other cardio workouts I can add to my routine, I’d love to hear them. I’d also like to hear your thoughts on the Rams release of coach Linehan. Let me know in the comments.

    “Richard….fat guy in a little coooat…”

Yes, the title of this site is in reference to the hilarious line uttered by the late Chris Farley in “Tommy Boy,” but it’s so much more.

This site is about the quest of one man. That man is me, Brett Grassmuck, an overweight internet content writer from St. Louis.

At my cousin's wedding earlier this year.

This is my quest: to fit into a “little coat” by the time I get married in June. That gives me eight months.

    Fat guy in Little coat.

(That picture is me the last time I had a tux on, my cousin’s wedding last May. I can’t have THAT guy in MY wedding pictures…)

Since this is my first post, I thought I’d tell you a little bit about me. I work for a small internet company in St. Louis, my hometown, where I am a content writer. I have a degree in print journalism from Missouri State University. (For all you St. Louisans, I went to Francis Howell Central High School…)

On June 6, 2009 I will be marrying my fiancé, my high-school sweetheart, who I’ve been together with for seven years. It’s been a long time in the making, but I can’t wait. I can’t imagine my life without her in it.

I can, however, imagine a life where I’m not plus-sized. I’ve imagined it my entire life, pretty much, because I’ve almost always been overweight. It could be hard at times, but I’ve never really let it bother me. I’ve also developed a pretty good sense of self-depreciating humor, which I’m sure you’ll see throughout this process.

As most of you know, it is certainly a process.

Just like pretty much everyone in the continental United States, I’ve dieted…and failed…many, many times.

Not this time, though. This time it’s different. This is a quest, a journey. I’m about to take a life-altering step, so I might as well start making some lifestyle changes to go along with it.

At my peak, I ballooned up to over 300 pounds, which I still can’t wrap my mind around. I couldn’t fit into anything less than a 3XL shirt and my pants looked like Jared’s from Subway (you think I’m kidding…).

Something had to be done, and thus my quest began. It officially began July 6, exactly 11 months before the wedding. My starting weight was 297 pounds. I need to lose just two pounds per week to be at my goal weight of 200 pounds by June 6.

And I have to mention that I’m trying to do this the old-fashioned way. No books, no cards, no shakes, just will power and exercise.

As of this morning, I was 280 pounds. I’m down 17 pounds in 12 weeks, not too shabby….but not two pounds per week, either. Also, I’ve been 280 for the past couple weeks. I’ve strayed from the beaten path a little, and I’ve hit the dreaded plateau.

That’s where the blog comes in, and my hope is that it will be two-fold. I need you to keep me accountable and help me achieve my goal, and I hope that you will see me, watch my progress and realize that if this fat guy can do it, anyone can.

So please come along with me on my quest, make comments on the posts, and we’ll have some fun as well. I can’t always talk about me, I’m not that interesting of a guy, so we can talk about movies, TV, music, sports and anything else.

It’s time for a change, and it’s a change we can all believe in.

Welcome to Fat Guy in Little Coat.
